The Boston area is currently filled with 75 pianos in outdoor public locations. The Street Pianos project partnered with Celebrity Series of Boston and recruited artists to decorate donated pianos. They are on the streets of Boston, Cambridge and Somerville until October 14th – find locations here.
We’ve been visiting them this past weekend, and plan to have a ninja Ginger Ibex performance at one or more next weekend – probably Saturday October 5th in the late afternoon. We’ll be tweeting our location as we determine it – we expect to start in Harvard Square by the Au Bon Pain, but it will depend on who else is using a piano when we arrive! So follow us on Twitter at @gingeribex for details! (We’ll also update on Facebook, but it’s never certain whether that will show up in your feed)
Meanwhile, check out some photos and videos of our piano scavenger hunt so far:
Sharon playing a bit of Mozart’s “Turkish March” on the piano at 7 Haviland St Boston:
Betty on the piano at Longy School of Music in Cambridge:
Sharon on the Longy piano playing a bit of “October Tango”:
Sharon at the Harvard Science Center plaza – she was filmed here by a friend who is making a movie of local musicians on the various pianos:
Sharon again (she IS the pianist after all!) at Brattle Square (Harvard Square outside of the EMS store). This piano was decorated by local musician Yani Batteau:
So follow us on Twitter to find Sharon, Betty and Mel this coming weekend – October 5 most likely, after 4:30PM – out on the streets. And don’t forget our concert this Friday October 4th at the Arts at the Armory Cafe with Cello Mike from NYC and Vudu Sister from RI!
